Irish hard rock band Thin Lizzy, in the late 1970's, were like an antidote to those who couldn't get into the anarchist rabble rousing of the punk bands of the era. With their macho brand of rocking, the band topped charts and sold widely. On THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN, the quartet perform their hits live on stage at the Sydney Opera House. The stellar performance includes "Jailbreak," "Bad Reputation," and the chart-topping "The Boys Are Back in Town."
Yes, the sound quality is a bit lacking. Yes this was obviously shot on a rather low budget (for Australain TV I'd assume). All that said, if you're a Thin Lizzy fan, particularly of the Gary Moore era, this is the equivalent of the Holy Grail. I'd be stunned if there is any other live footage of this era of the band that isn't simply bootleg material. Just seeing Phil, Gary and Scott on stage together is just amazing (sadly Brian Downey wasn't there as I believe he was back in Ireland ill). I watched this through the first time for its 45 minute duration just grinning ear to ear. Gary's solo during "Me and the Boys" alone is worth the purchase price. I swear... you watch this and cannot help but wonder how here in the US, someone like Eddie Van Halen is diefied, yet you'd be lucky to find 1 in 50 people who know who Gary is. The man just shreds.
