Im now using Microsoft security essentials. Im not really sure about it yet, Norton has a terrible reputation as a whole , you must be one of the lucky ones Her Maj. Ive tried a few different ones. AVG pro is good for sure but the other one is morelike a virus as already said.
Will bear in mind the Avast one, havent used that in a few years.
I use Avira Antivirus & have done for the last few years,
I've used both Avast & AVG in the past but found I prefer Avira.

I just completed a complete recovery of Penelope. Back in the days I guess you would call it reformatting my hard drive & reloading the operating system and everything else from disc. I try to do it at least once a year usually when I renew my virus protection which I sometimes change depending on the what upgrades the software company has done their programs. This year I've stuck with Trend Micro Titanium, but I purchased it new on disc from Best Buy and installed it immediately after reinstalling my operating system.
I've found that doing this once a year plus using clean disc & running my defrag program regularly keeps her running at her best.
Over the years I've used: Macaffee, Symantec, Norton; AVG, Avast, Kaspersky, Security Essentials and a random selection of others.
Most of them are as good or bad as the others, with the odd notable exception. Although there has been the odd hideous moment from each of them.
What they all have in common is that every 6-12 months or so, I blamed them for slowing my PC down.
Generally found that once I'd performed a bit of incredibly dull housekeeping that suddenly my PC wasn't as slow as it had been.
I've only ever used AVG and Avast ( the 'free' versions of both).
I did notice my system 'slowing' somewhat with AVG (especially during boot up).
Now that I'm using the free version of Avast, my PC boot up time is faster again.
I have removed Avast because installing it totally messed up my computer.
This happened at about 9pm last night and we finally fixed the problem about 3am today.
I won't be trying that one again and will stick with AVG
