The chosen charity is:
“Superstorm” Sandy, as it has come to be known, had a devastating impact on Long Island and the surrounding region. Hundreds of thousands of Long Islanders were left without power for days if not weeks as crews came from around the country in an effort to restore a crippled electric grid. A year later, many on Long Island still feeling the effects of Sandy. Even after adjusting for inflation, estimates rank Sandy as the second costliest hurricane in US history.
Hundreds of students and faculty at Suffolk County Community College were adversely affected by the storm and surge. Many students were displaced for weeks and months and some remain homeless today. The SCC Foundation recognized the need to assist those would find themselves unable to return to college due to financial hardships caused by the devastation and established the “Sandy Relief Scholarship Fund” to benefit those most impacted with tuition assistance.
Be on the lookout for doctordiaz, who is new to eBid and will be helping to promote YDC 118 to the Suffolk Community College community.
In the coming days, I will share some of the stories of the students we will be helping.
