What you have to remember is that there are some deluded people in USA who think the world begins and ends with America. The person concerned may not even have done a check on the web
I am a hockey fan (of the ice variety) and remember a few years ago when Solihull Barons signed up a new defence man. Luckilly during the conversation someone mentioned passports; this caused a bit of a panic as he did not have one. However he did manage to get one sorted out in time.
Also Birmingham Council had a lucky escape a few years ago by calling their newspaper (delivered to each house in the City) "The Voice". Which also happened to be the title of a leading UK newspaper aimed at the Black Community.

I'm in the US and I certainly don't think the world begins and ends with us. We are part of a world community and eBid is the part I really like. The name serves us and changing it will only put name recognition 14 or so years behind. New name means starting a square one.
If there aren't millions and millions being spent on advertising for this site what on earth they would spend millions and millions to let every one know they have changed their name.
Near as I can figure there is not a lot of common sense in the title of this thread.
I don't think changing the name would be without its merits. I'm in the camp that does believe a .com name is still preferred, though it might not be as much as it once was. The "eBid" moniker does insinuate another auction site, though many members seem to believe people see it as an online marketplace. I can't say for sure how "outside" people view it, because I know of no one that even knows this place exists. I don't think a name change is completely necessary, after all, it is only four letters and very easy to remember, but changing it up (along with a site revamp) could make things appear fresh and new, and make people who gave up on eBid a while ago come back to give it another shot. SUGGESTION: Why not "change" it to eBid Marketplace? It would be as easy as adding "Marketplace" to the bottom of the circular logo. Same site, same everything, but if anyone does have that misconception that it's more like "an auction-only" site, that could help clarify. Just a thought.
Hmmmm. I just typed the word "ebid" into Google.
eBid.net comes up on the top two lines, plus a prominent display on the right. Then all the other sites with ebid in their name.
If someone just remembers "eBid" they'll find us.
