How annoying (once again) - item posted Saturday has come back to me!
Good 'ol Royal Watsit.... yes, the address is correct - my fault for putting sender's details on back I suppose...

I had that happen a couple of months ago. Took it to my local sorting office asked how that could happen when the stamps were on the front, I didn't get an answer, he just wrote 'To' on the front and 'From' on the back above my returns sticker and told me to put it in post box, which I did.
I now write 'from' above my returns sticker, I shouldn't have to do something so obvious as the receivers address is written clearly on the front where the stamps are, and the return address is a small printed sticker on the back...

If I put my details on the back as sender, I use the abbreviated form of address - Name, House No, Postcode.
This is less likely to be interpreted as the address to which it should be delivered but is sufficient for the packet to be returned if it is not delivered for whatever reason.
...at the sorting office they said that the machine must have read the back instead (my address was on a sticker - with SENDER on the top) It often happens apparently. I use the sticker to help seal the envelope.
"oh" I said "but there's no stamp on the back as it's on the other (address) side; surely the machine would have picked that up too?"
"not always" was the reply... hmmmmmmmmmmm - well, the clerk took it back again, highlighted the postcode and put it straight away into the addressee’s pigeon-hole... "should do the trick" the clerk said.
And lo! Feedback received this morning from buyer. Hurrah!
I will use Tony41's use of an abbreviated address as a better option to avoid this in future.
Many thanks.
I was advised to put a diagonal line through my sender address to stop just this happening.
