I cant understand why they are wasting money doing them now as they are going to have to change all the money again when we get a king, not wishing any harm to our queen but things happen
From what I have read the reason is fraud, the current coins are too easily copied, whereas the new multi-sided ones will be more difficult (allegedly); although I am sure it will only slow down the shysters.

Apparently as many as 4 in every 10 pound coins in circulation is a forgery, I'm surprised it's taken them this long to change them
I heard you must use your old pound coins by the end of March....

A survey undertaken in May 2015 found that the rate of counterfeit UK £1 coins in circulation at the time was 2.55%, compared to 3.03% in May 2014.
