Fed up with eBay

I have been an eBay seller for many years but I would hazard a guess that there are many like me who are seriously considering eBid as an alternative.
I have always been under the impression, rightly or wrongly, that not much sells on eBid but I am very open to persuasion!
A few questions:
1. Is there an option on eBid as on eBay to see sold and completed listings?. If so how is it accessed?
2. I have a lot of listings on eBay and it would take forever to create new listings for them all on eBid. Is there a way to get the eBay listings en bloc to eBid?
3. Like many in my age group (late 70s) I an not overly good with technology and I don't want to start on something I may struggle to cope with. Is eBid relatively simple once you get used to it?

I can only tell you my experience after signing up to a platinum membership about 4 months ago,I have no idea about the other membership types.

Yes you can import your Ebay listings if you have a platinum membership,I did exactly that and actually it worked pretty well getting the listings over. It was not so good putting them in the right categories though,however that might have been due to what I list which is mainly postcards and cigarette cards.

You can also import your Ebay feedback numbers BUT not the actual written feedback,at least Ive not found a way.

The site is not as easy as Ebay to navigate but when you get used to it its not terrible,I mean it could be a lot better but its useable and I now find I can list things almost as quickly as Ebay.

Sales..chalk and cheese,seriously,in 4 months I have had 2 sales here,in the same period on the other place its 418,Ive actually purchased more cards on here than Ive sold so some people on here are selling for sure :-)

You have to promote yourself,in any way you can,be it social media or some other method to get yourself a following.You will find the place frustrating in terms of how it promotes itself to potential buyers.

In the short time I have been here I have found the members to be a friendly bunch and the forum to be very useful,although some of the posts are way out of date as is the advice given.

Overall its an addition to my sales platforms,but currently its hard to justify putting in the effort v amount of sales,I keep thinking I should try harder but then I compare it with two others I use and decide to put my effort into those instead,that will probably change over the winter months when Ive got more time on my hands.

Fees are low which is great,and Im sticking with it but it will never be the only platform I use.

I hope those observations are of some use.

I decided to stop selling on obay at the beginning of December after 12 years, even though they had just announced it would be Free to Sell over there. What's the point when it's become clear to me that unless I Sponsor my listings at 12% I will not sell anything anyway. My sales last year were a grand total of 4 items, the previous 2 years 13 items each. Before that for several years 1 or 2 a month. Having seen the recent announcements about what's coming this year -- compulsory payment Holds / Compulsory Simple Delivery, I'm glad I made that decision.

I've been selling here for 11 years and last year sold 28 items, the previous 2 years 24 and 17 respectively, which I consider OK for the amount of effort I put in, in a niche Collectables category.

So far as I know there isn't any way to access Sold listings by category. But I regularly check the 'Recently Sold' strip on the Home Page. Todays snap-shot shows 10 post cards, 1 gold and opal ring and one battery sold in about half an hour yesterday afternoon. By the time you read this, it will probably have moved-on. From regular observations it's becoming clearer to me that most sales on ebid are from RUS listings.

Yes there is a way of importing listings from elsewhere, unfortunately I've never used it so can't help you with that. Hopefully someone who has can explain. One reason I've never used it is that it has suited my lifestyle to list 1 or 2 new items each week. I believe that has inadvertently benefitted me as I've built up a wide spread of listing start dates which might have helped get my ads. visibility on Google Shopping (GS).
(I recommend you read the Help Pages > FAQs at the top of the main site Home Page on the criteria for getting your ads. uploaded to GS.)

I'm 71 and pretty useless at techie stuff. After obay, Ebid was very different, but in some ways it's simpler. Once you get used to it it is often easier to use, once you get past the difference.

I started testing the water by using Platinum Listings (5p per ad.) which gives most of the advantages of the Gold and Platinum Seller plans and have never got around to up-grading (Again see the FAQs Selling > Seller Plans). There is/was a way to get around the time limit for upgrading under the 'Special Offer'.

A few tips that might help you.
Log in regularly, buyers know to look at your Recent Activity on every listing.

Always leave FB for your buyers. It will keep count of your sales for future reference. Few Buyers leave FB but if they check yours 'left for others' it will show you have had successful transactions.

The Search is very Key-Word oriented, so be careful with your ad. titles. You need to get as many of the words buyers might use when searching into your title. Have a look at one of my ads., then search ebid or GS using each word or phrase and my item should be visible in at least most of the search results. If yours aren't then play around with the title until they are.

Once you have some listings make use of the Plug Your Auction Forum. Only one thread per seller but they can be deleted at will and replaced regularly. It gets your name and items known to other sellers and hopefully buyers.

*bay just keep getting worse and worse with all their stupid changes which never benefit seller and buyers but the sad truth is they are still in the top 3 of best selling sites and that won't change anytime soon, although Vinted and their sister sites are growing amazingly which I always used to hope would happen to this site

I agree with you that they are still one of the top three selling sites, but not IMO for the sort of collectables that I sell.

It's now 'Fee Free' to sell there, but only with the proviso that I sponsor my listings (the last ad. I put up they recommended 11%). In a way they have done what many have said they should do and gone back to something like they were years ago, no listing fees, FVF of 11% but no fee on P&P and no payment processing fee, so it looks like I would be better-off.

But I would still have to contend with their rigged search with visibility being sold to the highest bidder. Regular re-freshing of ads. to maintain that visibility. The hopeless mess of their new categories and that many Buyers don't understand how to find what they're looking for using IS. Having any sales funds Held for up to 14 days, doesn't worry me greatly but I think it's a cheek after running a problem free account for a decade that I'm viewed as no more trustworthy that someone who only started selling when it became Free to Sell.

But then I read about Simple Delivery coming in February(?). Sorry, but I'm not willing to have either my buyer or ebay deciding who I have to use to deliver my glass items.
Obay might be one of the biggest selling sites for 'new in a box' types of goods but I seriously doubt that they will be able to say the same once the latest changes are fully rolled out, when it comes to collectables.

I'm hoping that ebid will fill that gap where the competition comes mainly from esty, which also has its own problems and (from what I've read) seems to regularly annoy plenty of its sellers.

You have nothing to lose by joining the eBid community of sellers. It works well for me selling predominantly Post Cards and Stamps mostly. I have been on here for 12years next week and my feedback built up on here reflects what I have sold over that time. Not complaining.

A lot of your questions have been answered I note, so I don't need to repeat them ... rest assured you can make good sales on here, stay competitive with prices, but you need to make it happen with self promotion ... use Social Media if you can.
