Smile New to ebid.... is it worth us starting?

    Hello all
We are new to this site and have been looking around for a couple of days now. the forums seem very quiet with little activity. ( could be wrong still looking)
We are also disgruntled sellers from ebay. We were mostly sellers of vinyl records dealing in low cost singles that would sell for around £1. As yet we have not made our mind up if it is worth carrying on. We would love to hear from anybody about what this site has to offer. We have several ebay customers who are keen to know if we are going to sell, and we would love some input before we part with money to start selling again.
We also posted this in the music, cds, tapes and vinyl section. Hopefully we are in the right place somewhere.
    Best wishes
    Ann & Paul

    UPSIDE:
I have been here since February 1st 2008 and have the lifetime/Platinum option (half price if upgrading within 24hrs of signing up). 5 free stores - endless categories/sub categories, endless listings (auto list up to 10 times) max 20 photos per listing (with Lifetime/Platinum) - listings auto upload to Google shopping- no listing fees - 2% FVF on sales - choice of payment option(s) - your own rules and regulations - helpful forums - helpful customer support.

    DOWNSIDE:
I have to do my own advertising around the web ie FaceBook, Pinterest etc. which I really don't mind as I can be my boss on how and when. It is rather slow right now but only because I don't do enough advertising like I should.

    VERDICT:
This is a really good place to park your listings. You only pay 2% FVF when item(s) sells. Easy layout, no fuss no muss. I'm staying.

I'm guessing it may depend on what you are trying to sell and pricepoint, looking at your original post, it is a growing market still and given the pricepoint, may do quite well, BUT, and there is a reason for the big but (no, pun intended), as JanetB pointed out, you could end up just parking your listings.

I used to sell here many moons ago when my wife was running a small business selling bath bombs, soaps etc until the market became saturated and didn't list here for a while. Back then, we made a few odd sales here and there and gathered some regular customers, but nothing spectacular.

I have been re-listing here again for just over a year, same items i list on feebay and vinted, but reduced prices as i don't have the fees to deal with, but it has been total crickets in all that time. The only two "sales" i made were both scammers trying it on through various payment scams and the rest of my time here is spent removing listings that i have sold somewhere else, mainly vinted lately. As a measure, i listed an item that i had in storage, a stack load of a specific disability aid to get rid of, listed well under any competition on both feebay and here to clear them, i was selling 1-3 of them a day on feebay for a couple months until i sold out, but not one whisper on here for a single sale.

I really want this platform to succeed, but my focus has leant towards Vinted a lot more lately because i am getting the sales, although that also has its issues, in so much as most people are looking for something for nothing, but saying that, i have also cleared £30-40 items on there than i had majorly struggled to sell on feebay, so, swings and roundabouts.

Thank you for the reply angelicas
We are keen vinyl collectors and always have spare records to get rid of. it was the 2020 lockdown that got us started selling on ebay and we just carried on selling as we enjoyed talking to others who loved vinyl. Now ebay has become difficult to sell on. We never really made much money with we did not mind, but making a loss is something that we do mind. We want to carry on selling we just do not know where. We may give it a go here.

If it's any help I have sold 41 postcards (mainly around the £1.00 mark) in the last 2 weeks I'm also a vinyl collector so who knows I might become a customer

I think that postage and delivery is the biggest fact in being a success. If you can dispatch for £0.85 stamp, you may have a winner. More of a struggle if you are selling heavy items

The first thing to remember is this place has nothing like the reach of Ebay, its not even close but depending on what you are selling its probably the nearest competitor.

Like another respondent pretty much all of my visits here are to remove stuff Ive sold elsewhere,I do that on a daily basis.

You might be totally fed up with Ebay as was I, but honestly despite their fees Ive found theres no place like it.

Im just recovering from major surgery so may have a bit more time to put more effort into Ebid...I have to say the adverts that now pop up continually are a major disincentive not only to potential buyers but also for me to list.

Ive still purchased far more than Ive sold on here,as a platinum member I can't see me ever getting my money back, not that it cost a fortune and its always good to have another outlet.

The people who consistently do well here seem to be the ones who have been on here forever and good luck to them.

Im also going to return to Etsy for my cigarette Card sets,I feel very uninclined to put in the amount of effort required for sales here although of course I hate Etsys fees !

Same Here i have started listing on ebay again and have sold magazines there which i have then removed from ebid, If i didn't have loads of adult magazines to shift i wouldn't be here at all i am mainly/ or only here because its hard to find anywhere that allows adult magazines, I just wish the owners would make a comment on something anything just to make us think somethings happening and boost positivity but nothing ever happens its so frustrating as its a straight forward easy to use platform, I don't mind paying ebays fees or them holding on to my money as its just a hobby and at least i get movement over the their ,I keep trying to feel positive and gear myself up for listing other items on here then last minute list them on ebay and another site i sell on,I post all links on X, pinterest and facebook regularly i can't see what else i could do, The 2 regular ebay buyers i got to purchase from me on here told they had never heard of ebid and didn't trust buying from here and they have not purchased anything since on here.

I used to sell here successfully many years ago, disposing of my wife's surplus craft supplies (and might start doing that again). But most of the stuff I want to declutter is old computer and electronics, perhaps not likely to sell here, hard enough on ebay. After mandatory Simple Delivery is brought in later this quarter on ebay that may be a killer for me if they don't offer collection from my house, so at that point I'll be looking at alternatives, including ebid.

I need to be convinced it will be easy to upload photos with my listings here.
