just to be clear and open I sell adult toys and novelties (but not porn, by choice). Everyone knows I have an interest and a bias.
I do not agree that my customers should have to jump through even more hoops in order to by legal goods just because of the irresponsibility of some parents.
I too am a parent but, because of my business, I have my computer set to allow these images. I therefore got another computer for my kids that does not allow these images and I monitor very closely what they do access. It is not my responsibility to protect your kids where you fail to do so. i find the attitude "everybody else must protect my kids because I am too busy to do so" extremely offensive and a major cop out.
Simple steps can stop many of these images being shown on a pc, for example, change the preferences on Google to strict filtering, NEVER log in to a site such as ebid and then let the kids roam unsupervised, ALWAYS monitor what your kids are doing on the net. Your children are your responsibility. You chose to have them so don't then duck the responsibility by asking the rest of the world to restrict their activities to suit your choices.
At the risk of sounding like a hypocrite I must say that I too object, as a mother and a woman, to some of the images used to advertise porn, hard or soft. The images are often far too graphic. Sometimes depict violence and some of the women are obviously chosen for their childlike appearance. I have no objections to porn being sold but feel that the images should be kept inside the auction and not appear in the listings.
As to Paladins point about kids seeking adult images, he's right. They will, it is part of growing up. It is our responsibility to make it difficult for them and to protect them as best we can, to ensure they grow up balanced and without too many hang ups.
