No, you don't have to keep Norton, but you do need an anti-virus program. You can't have 2 anti-virus programs running on your machine at the same time. All the free ones suggested are fine. Make sure Norton is gone before installing a new one. Adaware and spyware programs are not anti-virus programs, don't be confused.

I got rid of Norton 2 years ago.
I run AVG, Ad-aware, and Windows washer every week and I'm quite happy with them.
HOWEVER - I hardly ever download anything - not into music/games etc.
(Edit:- forgot to say they are the free versions!)

Totally agree with the other posters...Norton is a waste of time and money!
