Seller's Description
Genuine Antique 9ct Gold Enamel Mourning Brooch Pin
Hello there and welcome (kroeso) to my wee store.
I sell online in high-end shops and websites and pre-Covid used to attend trade fairs around the globe. I have a huge stock of "bargain basement" items which were great at fairs for inexpensive extras. I also have a massive stock of highly valuable and collectable items never seen before on the internet.
I find it heart-breaking that brooches such as this no longer seem to have the appeal they once did as they are one of the most versatile pieces of jewellery you could have.
Mourning brooches are just so Victorian but are some of the best made items you will ever find because they meant so much. Most were handmade by the "family jeweller" and as such are unique.
I have slashed the prices on my mourning brooches due to their decline in popularity but be assured that when this changes the prices WILL shoot up.
ABOUT THIS BROOCH
Constructed from solid 9ct yellow gold (375 parts per 1000)
Handmade, not sent for assay, X-ray tested.
Dates to middle of the 19th Century (c1850s)
The style is classic Victorian, of very sturdy construction and super high quality.
There is wonderful black enamel and gold detailing to the front with a central locket compartment with checker plaited hair in situ.
I personally never remove hair or photos but if you wanted to then all parts are present and in good order to be able to do this.
Fastens with a gold hinged pin and C hook clasp - all in good order.
Condition is very good, especially considering its age.
Length is 45mm.
Width is 39 mm.
It sits 11 mm proud.
Weight is 18 grams
You would expect to pay between £2,500 and £4,000 for a brooch like this at a fancy antique shop, depending on your ability to hunt down a bargain.
Fully insured and tracked postage MUST be purchased with this brooch.
CONDITION REPORT
Many of my brooches are VERY old and have some signs of this. I ensure they are fully operational and can be worn from arrival but I do not like polishing them to "as new" because I feel this detracts from their history. I will consider doing so, for a small fee, if you ask nicely ;-)
I guarantee all items to be as described and will accept a return on anything you are not happy with.
Please contact me directly via messaging should you wish to do this.
