Seller's Description

Rail (Enthusiast) February 1994. Issue No.220

Main features:

- Their Hour of Glory Finally Arrives!  The Class 323 EMUs, cause of much concern to Regional Railways over the past fifteen months due to a succession of  defects, have finally entered service. The honour of being the first unit to carry fare-paying passengers fell to No.323215 which quietly started work with the 0956 Lichfield Trent Valley to Redditch service on February 7, which is pictured loading at Four Oaks station.

- News:  Successful test run for Ixion; Class92s start the trek to Prague; Hams Hill Freight Village gets the green light; loco-hauled trains feature in West Highland 150 celebrations; new National Power wagon undergoes mainline testing; InterCity's market testing vehicles move to the Great Western, Hight Speed Rail Link plans in full; Class 48 (yes,48!) secured for preservation; penalty fares to be introduced on London Underground; Regional Railways plans unveiled for 'new' St.Blazey depot and Ripple Lane depot finally closes its doors.

- The Human Revolution: Dick Hardy continues his recollection of the introduction of diesels on the Eastern Region of BR, and the effect on staff. This time he recounts the problems with D5500 at Liverpool Street when, come departure time with Danish Royalty on board, the locomotive refused to move!
