From Lanman Genealogy by Stone: DAVID TRUMBULL LANMAN was born September 25, 1802, at Norwich, Conn., and was the oldest son of Peter Lanman II and Abigail (Trumbull) Lanman. His family moved to New York City when he was about 12, and he soon began assisting his father in the work of a merchant. As time went on he began to conduct more and more business in his own right. The Yale University Library has some business and personal letters and a receipt to him from his uncle John M. Trumbull of Elizabethtown, N.J., dated between 1818 and 1824. It also has three letters written late in 1818 from Norwich by his uncle Jonathan G. W. Trumbull. His portrait was painted by his great uncle John Trumbull in the 1820's in New York.

On October 14, 1840, He married Margaret Downing, who was born about 1817 in Newark, N.J., eldest daughter of George R. Downing, a Brooklyn merchant and jeweler. David T. Lanman continued to pursue the career of druggist for the rest of his life, for awhile as a partner of Lindlay Murray at 52 Water Street, and later as member of the firm Lanman & Kemp, wholesale druggists, 69 , 71, & 73 Water Street. After his death his son George was associated with the firm, which became a large importing, manufacturing, and exporting drug house, famous for its toilet water known as "Florida Water." Its descendant is Lanman & Kemp-Barclay & Co., Inc., of Palisades Park, N.J., but no Lanman has heen associated with the firm for at least a half century. In the mid-1840s David T. Lanman moved his family to Brooklyn, and after a while settled at 6 Carroll Park . David T. Lanman died April 15, 1855. His wife survived him by more than thirty years, living in the same house until her death. She was a member of Christ Church, at Clinton and Harrison Streets, and was active in charitable organizations until a few years before her death. She died Sept. 6, 1897, at her home, 241 Carroll Street, Brooklyn, and was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn

Hi! This FLS came from a new collection (70+ items!) I just purchased.
All 19th century worldwide FLS's.
I'll give a nice, short description of it when possible.
Much of the time, I'll let the scans do the talking.

I generally scan ALL or MOST of the enclosure pages (if any) as well as anything
else that might help you to decide whether or not to bid or purchase.
I want you to have as much info on the item as possible.
I will let you read the enclosures for yourselves, as I can only go into so much detail.
I will always try to make the scans large enough to read the writing. Thank You!

Many of these items are better than most FLS's I've seen as far as condition goes. Some will have faults typical of items that went through the mail during that time. Please, view my scans carefully, and form your own opinion of condition.
In general, they will be in Fine / Very Fine condition.
Additional information upon request. Just message me! Thanks for looking, and thanks in advance for your bids or purchase!

In general, postal history items will be in fine / very fine condition. Many like FDC's will be in excellent condition. Standalone stamps will be described. Additional information upon request. Just message me! Thanks for looking, and thanks in advance for your purchases!
