Text from the free encyclopedia WIKIPEDIA may appear below to give a little background information:
*************
Ashby-de-la-Zouch, — Zouch being pronounced /'zu??/ — often shortened to Ashby, is a small market town and civil parish in North West Leicestershire, England, within the National Forest. It is twinned with Pithiviers in north-central France.
The castle was of importance from the 15th to the 17th centuries. In the 19th century the town became a spa town and was connected to Burton upon Trent and Leicester by railway. Before the growth of Coalville it was the chief town in north-west Leicestershire.
In the 19th century its main industries were ribbon manufacture, coal mining and brickmaking. Before the arrival of the Midland Railway in 1845, the town was served by Ashby-de-la-Zouch Canal. When the railway arrived it placed the town on an important route between Leicester and Burton upon Trent. Passenger train service through Ashby was withdrawn when Ashby station closed in the 1960s.
The civil parish includes the hamlet of Shellbrook to the west of the town. Nearby villages include Normanton le Heath, Packington, Donisthorpe, Oakthorpe, Measham, Coleorton and Moira.
