Seller's Description

ORIGINAL HORROR / SCI-FI / FANTASY MOVIE MEMORABILIA

The best site for rare, authentic horror movie memorabilia, including Universal, Hammer Horror, Amicus etc. original UK Quads, pressbooks, Front of House cards, autographs sold from my vast personal collection - now downsizing.

Rare and Scarce Horror and Sci-Fi Posters

All pieces offered are genuine release (usually 1st), old, cinema movie items and so had a 'life' before sale, so unlikely ever to be mint.

NOTE ON UK QUAD POSTERS: The UK Quad measures 30 x 40” and is ‘landscape’ format (wider rather than longer) so is excellent for images and scenes. US 1 sheets are ‘portrait’ (so longer than wide) and limited more to figure and face images than scenes. The older Quads from around 1970, or earlier, would generally tend to use artists to create an image and perhaps especially for cheaper horror movies the artist’s imagination could produce wonderful images that the actual movie had a hard time to live up to; however horror, science fiction and fantasy tend to be the most collected posters because of the artwork and they also tend to command the highest prices (hence the recent case of fake US horror 1 sheets for top horror titles). Many posters from the 1960s and earlier are scarce to rare as they were usually disposed of when the film had been shown and were never intended to be collected; they were often printed on poorer paper as they were seen essentially as disposable pieces pasted over, or thrown away when the movie had had its initial run. There is an impression that many earlier horror Quads have survived as some pieces will appear on internet sites, but a close inspection of who sells the best pieces will show that there are only a very few collectors / dealers who actually have scare, or rare, pieces. The idea that there are many such pieces out there is erroneous. A survey of top dealers and their inventory will reveal that very few good pieces are,in actual fact, available, especially for earlier Hammer Film Quads and even re-release Universal Quads are becoming scarce.

US 1 sheets tend to be more plentiful as our US cousins actually appreciated these pieces from the early days of cinema and, of course, with the size of the US compared to the UK, many more copies were printed, so Quads tend to be much more scarce on a title. Some posters are re-issue which means the movie was released again at a later date from the original release and these also are real cinema used posters, sometimes with different artwork from the originals. Values depend on the desirability of a title, star, condition and age.

Please note I am no professional photographer, so some images may have light sources / reflections not actually on the poster.

Questions and Answers

Question From fergusondj [+1]
Tue 25 Mar 2025 10:42:07 (BST)
Hi, I'm quite interested in this poster but concerned about the creasing - do you think they could be flattened at all using a press or suchlike or best left alone? Has the tape been used because the paper has actually split along the folds?

Thank you for the enquiry. The folds with tape were originally made (by its original owner - not me) to preserve the folds and avoid splitting, as this is an old Quad. I imagine that if kept flat (and possibly having a weight) that the folds should even out. The verso tape could be removed by a professional poster restorer. Hope this is of some help. Regards

Thanks for your reply. I think I'll go for it - this film has been a special favourite for my wife and me for a long time. We first saw it at the Scala in Kings Cross back in 1983 when in London for a Cramps concert - a double bill with The Wasp Woman too, another classic from Roger Corman but not in the same league as Bucket of Blood which is absolutely fantastic on so many levels imho

Thank you. I will get the poster packaged and email when it is on its way. Yes, always good to have fond memories of such movies. Regards, Richard
