Original 9 5/8 inch x 7 1/2 inch Portrait of EVELYN LAYE in the 1934 Victor Saville Musical Drama EVENSONG, based on the play by Edward Knoblock and the novel by Beverley Nicholls.
Poignant musical with Evelyn Laye as Maggie, an Irish girl who elopes with a young musician (Emlyn Williams), is moulded into a top opera star by impresario Kober (Fritz Kortner), has a tempestuous affair with an archduke (Carl Esmond), refuses to acknowledge she is ageing and finally collapses and dies as the young star who has supplanted her is singing on stage.
The portrait, on doubleweight paper, is in very good condition with a brown spot in the upper right corner. Reverse side blank.
