Synopsis for "Close Call!"

Colossus and Mikhail enjoy a brief reunion before Primate reminds them of the threat posed by the portal. Mikhail can close it with his powers but refuses to do so. He relates how he traveled through the portal years ago as a Soviet cosmonaut and crashed on this world. He was saved by the Triumvirate’s ruler and eventually married the ruler’s eldest daughter. Investigating the portal further, Mikhail learned the portal was the source of the ruler’s power and that the ruler had killed his fellow cosmonauts. Betrayed, Mikhail led a rebellion and used his mutant powers to seal the portal. In doing so, however, he accidentally killed the ruler, many of his fellow rebels, and his wife. Elsewhere, Iceman and Sunfire defeat Triumvirate forces sent after them and head for the rebel base. On Earth, Professor X and Forge coordinate with other superheroes as the Sakhalin pit grows, and more pits appear around the world. Mikhail refuses to close the portal for fear of accidentally killing more people. Angry, Colossus argues with him and stomps off. Storm advises Mikhail to forgive himself and explains how Colossus idolizes him. At Sha-Har-a-Zath’s palace, Archangel loses control and accidently kills several of her guards during a training session. To calm him, she seduces him and takes control of his mind. The next morning, they lead her forces, the Posse Comitatus, to attack the rebel base and take control of the portal. The X-Men help the rebels fight back, and fighting his teammates brings Archangel to his senses. When Colossus is struck by an energy blast, Mikhail joins the battle and attacks Sha-Har-a-Zath, his late wife’s sister. He, Iceman, and Sunfire then combine their powers to close the portal and return the X-Men to Earth. Forge and Professor X watch from the Blackbird as they emerge atop a pillar of rock thrust out of the pit. Mikhail stops breathing, but Colossus revives him, and Jean says she sensed the people on the other world are unharmed.
