Seller's Description
Up for sale is this original British WWII Spike Bayonet complete with scabbard made to attach to the No. 4 British .303 rifle (Inventory #7).
This is the 2nd pattern of spike bayonet and was forged from one solid piece of steel.
This No. 4 Mk. II with an LB maker’s mark shows it was made by Crown Corporation Small Arms Ltd., Long Branch, Ontario, Canada, which produced 910,000 of these bayonets from 1942-1944.
The scabbard is complete with the zinc-alloy mouthpiece (bushing) which is stamped “No. 4 Mk I” and has the spring retainer intact which securely holds the inserted spike. Additional manufacturer’s mark of “S286” shows that it was fabricated by Vanden Plas (Eng) 1923 Ltd. of Kingsbury Rd., London, which produced approximately 950,000 Mk. 1 scabbards.
