Heres a geat sounding Philips AX 3303 personal CD player. Its itted with all of the features that you'll need to enjoy your CD Discs, the main controls are grouped together into a circular ring on the the lid, the buttons that you'll find here are stop, play/pause, next track/fast search, last track/reverse search. Above this you'll see the secondary functions which allow you to programme the order in which the CDs tracks are replayed, as well as the random replay feature.
The current disc track/setting status is displayed in the matching circular LCD screen. Here, the current track number, elapsed time etc can be seen.

Fitted to side casing are the electronic volume buttons which operate the volume level up and down. These are linked to a standard 3.5 mm mini earphone jack. Next to this is a button marked "DBB", this is Philips Digital bass boost, and it enhances the low frequency audio performance.
Looking at the underside of the casin there are two slide switches, one is to set the hold function on or of and this prevents the players buttons being operated, the second slide switch turns the ESP, Electronic shock protection on or off. By turning the feature of the Batteries life will be extended.

The player is powered by 2 X AAA Batteries (not supplied) or alternatively by connecting a 4.5 volt DC power supply (not supplied) to the 4.5 volt DC input jack.

The sound produced by this player is excellent ....the sound is very lifelike wih a nice wide and clear stereo image, theres no hardness in the sound at all. this player will replay cdr discs and track access times are very fast. The tracking is very secure, and the unit operates very quietly.

Take a look at the supplied photos and you'll notice that the player is in excellent condition. There is very little evidence of previous use, and the silver and lined blue finish looks superb. All buttons and controls operate smoothly and positively, and the player works perfectly.

Hi can you use this without headphones?

The player does not feature a built in loudspeaker. so in order to be able to hear the sound from a CD disc it is neecessary to either connect earphones to the earphone socket. Alternatively a suitable cable (3.5 mm mini stereo to stereo RCA) can be connected to the earphone socket and if connected to an amplifier can be fed to this. The player on its own will not produce sound unless earphines are connected or a suitable audio output cable is linked to an amplifier.

Thats an interesting question Dave abd not straightforward to answer. When you tell me that you want to use an external speaker to produce the sound....do you mean to use an "active" speaker?....for example one that has its own in built amplification and requires its own power supply? such a loudspeaker would provide enough gain to produce a reasonable degree of volume output. If on the other hand you plan to use the passive type of loudspeaker (namely one that does not require itself to be powered) then the sound output level will in all likelihood be weak, this is what i have found previously.

Thank you for being so honest.. yes we have a passive speaker and bought a bush cd player off ebay but volume was just to small.. the wife was after something small that can be carried in a small bag to school.. its to play calming music to kids she councils on a voluntary basis so nothing fancy.. thanks anyway.. appreciate your reply

Okay....so....if you are using a passive loudspeaker then ultimately the output volume will be ultimately limited by the speaker's sensitivity and impedence which in the case of low cost paper units will be around 4 ohms, which presents a tricky load for a low cost CD polayer's headphone output, and there is a possibility that the cheap IC thats used as an amplifier will fail. The Bush CD player that you obtained will provide an industry standard output voltage and other brands will provide the same. Your only option and is to use a powered (active) loudspeaker that only requires a low voltage signal as supplied via a phones jack , to do therwise would be a waste of money....i hope that this helps you to make a decision.
