Seller's Description
Lot of four (4) John Maddock & Sons Bone Dishes
A Bone Dish is scalloped, sits next to the dinner plate and is used to hold discarded bones.
Pattern: Pansy
Date: Based on the logo described below, these dishes appear to date between 1870 and 1896 when the logo was altered. The company began in 1830 and the name was changed to John Madden & Sons in 1870. Another name modification occurred in 1896.
These four cream colored porcelain scalloped dishes are about 5.75 inches long and 3.5 inches wide (both measurements are at the widest point.) The dishes are bordered in gilt trim. The Pansy pattern is in light shades of blue, pink and green. Long pink leaves are at the top midpoint of the dish. Three blue flowers are beneath it are entwined on green vines. The design at the bottom of the dish are pink and green leaves and a blue flower.
The plain bottom of the dish is stamped under the glaze with a logo with a ring and crown design. JOHN MADDOCK & SONS ROYAL VITREOUS is in capital letters around the ring. The word ENGLAND appears horizontally in the middle of the ring. The ring is topped with a crown. Beneath the logo in capital letters is the name of the pattern, PANSY. This stamp is in different places on different dishes.
The gilt border on all of the dishes is quite rubbed.
The four dishes are in different condition.
1. This dish is crazed on both sides. There is a teeny chip in the top border and a larger chip in the bottom border.
2. This dish is also crazed on the top and only in two places on the bottom and several places on the side. We noted three teeny chips in the border which has a tan discoloration (a stain which is underneath the glaze.) Viewing the piece from the reverse there are several chips on top right and one on the bottom. These areas are also discolored. There is also a tiny chip on the bottom
3. This piece does have a few areas of crazing. There is a chip to one scallop at the bottom and two fleabites on the border. There is one crazed line on the bottom, some crazing on the side and one bumped 'corner.' This dish also has some discolored areas on the bottom and side.
4. This piece is not crazed. There are three discolored spots on the front and three production on the side. These blemishes probably occurred when the piece was fired. There is a teeny blue spot on the left side and a tiny dimple on the bottom.

BUYERS LOCATED OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES - PLEASE NOTE:
Receipt of your item may be delayed if it has to go through custom inspection in your country. Occasionally, this adds days or weeks to delivery.
Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility.
Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to buying.
Customs fees are normally charged by the shipping company or collected when you pick the item up. These fees are not additional shipping charges.
We won't under-value merchandise or mark the item as a gift on customs forms. Doing that is against U.S. and international laws.
During peak shipping times, it may take weeks to have your item clear customs. We’ve had some items arrive in Europe in a week, but a package to South America once took six weeks to arrive! Again, you’ll have to check with the customs office in your country if your item hasn’t been received.
Restrictions in your country may not allow us to ship certain items.
Many countries do not allow shipments of coins or precious metals, for example. Some media, including computer software, music CDs or DVDs may be restricted for sale outside the United States.
VHS and DVDs are formatted differently for different countries.
If you are purchasing a VHS videotape, please note the format your machine requires before you make your purchase. Most of our tapes are NTSC format (it is specified in the listing what the format is) which will not work in most video players in Europe and Australia. We routinely contact anyone overseas who purchases a VHS video to ask them to check if their machine can play an NTSC tape before we ship.
Many DVDs also have a specific format by country. If you are purchasing a DVD, please make sure the DVD is a format that will play in your machine.

We’ve found our “stolen” photographs and text on other e-commerce websites many times. In order to help reduce fraud and image theft, you’ll notice that most of our photographs have our logo or other label appearing on each image which obscures a small part of the item.
It is possible that anyone who uses stolen images or text may not even have the item they are trying to sell and that their intention is to defraud you. We don’t want anyone to use our images or text to try and sell you something they don’t have.
