Christian Clare Robertson is an Australian painter who lives and works in the Northern Territory. Her work deals predominantly with dramatic landscapes, The underlying theme of fear and beauty simultaneously attracts and cautions the viewer.
The Antarctic paintings were part of Clare’s Extreme Landforms Project which started from a field trip in 1982 to the Arctic. Christian Clare Robertson travelled to Antarctica in the summer of 1988/9 as the guest of the Australian Antarctic Division. A major exhibition of paintings was produced as a result of the voyage. All the paintings are oils on linen, and were chosen as the 1996 Australian Antarctic Territories set of 4 postage stamps. These painting were first exhibited in Parliament House, Canberra, in 1991 and subsequently in Darwin, Tasmania and Alice Springs.
