Seller's Description

Fatu-Hiva Back to Nature by Thor Heyerdahl. Published by Doubleday & Co Inc, Garden City, NY, 1974. Book Club Edition. Hardbound. Paper DJ. Size 8vo (up to 9-1/2'' tall). Condition: Nr Fine in Good DJ. 276 Pgs. The author and wife spent the year 1936 on Fatu-Hiva in the primitive Marquesas Islands. With no medical supplies, they came within inches of losing their lives, but they also found the natural serenity they were seeking. They build a bamboo cabin; dressed in loin chloths; ate breadfruit, coconuts, and prawns; made fire by rubbing sticks together; and struggled against insects, rain, and fatal diseses. They lived to tell about it - about their hazardous inter-island voyages, their idyllic month-long stay with the last surviving Polynesian cannibal, their mixed relations with the islanders, their failures and successes in an entirely natural world. Illustrated with black and white photographs. Description text copyright 2005 www.BooksForComfort.net. Item ID 8132.
