Oregon Sunstone Labradorite: Copper-bearing, Champagne-Orange 16mm Crystal

Gemmy partial crystal of Oregon Sunstone (labradorite) in shades of coppery red to orange. These crystals grow within vesicular basalt flows, and tend either to not come out whole, or completely fill the vesicles rather than showing crystal faces. This comes from the area of the original find just north of the Rabbit Hills in Lake County, Oregon's Warner Valley. The only copper-bearing, gem-quality transparent labradorite deposits are all located in eastern Oregon, giving rise to the "Oregon Sunstone" trade name. It is regularly faceted and carved into valuable gemstones (it is Oregon's official state gem). This piece is bright enough as-is to be used as a gem in a wire-wrap or custom setting. Although there is a copper-orange veil, this 11.7 ct piece could also produce a cut gem. An attractive and eye-catching specimen for your display shelf or case.

Photos were taken under natural sunlight with the specimen dry. Specimen is mounted on removeable mineral tack in an acrylic display box.
