  • Note: This is a rare "AUDITION RECORD".
  • Label: Soul City / A product of Liberty Records
  • Label Record Number: SCR-772
  • Release: 1969
  • Format: Mono & Stereo 45 RPM Vinyl
  • Record Condition: Good - a few minor scratches that do not effect playing ability (largest on Mono side).
  • Sleeve Condition: Fair to Good - 3 small tears. 1/4" long tear at top/center of one side. 3/8" long tear by bottom left corner on same side.  1/8" long tear in upper/middle of right edge on same side.   Some creases and marks from wear.

What does a "AUDITION RECORD" mean?

That is what is printed on both sides of this record. Typically "AUDITION RECORD" means it is not only a fairly rare record, but also that it contains the original recording of an unknown musical group. Copies of it would have been sent to major record companies, in an attempt to convince them to add the group to their label. It may also be sent to a limited number of radio stations and music stores to promote the group. In this case, this record has two versions (long and short) of "Aquarius / Let the Sun Shine In" by "The 5th Dimension", before they became a well known popular vocal singing group. One side has short version (3:50) in Mono. That would typically be used by AM radio stations and buyers with mono playback equipment. The other side has long version (4:49) recorded in stereo. This would typically be used by FM radio stations and buyers with stereo playback equipment.

I'm not positive. My guess is that it is an earlier release, from before the commercial release was in existence.
