Seller's Description
You'll need two hands when you pass this beauty around the table! It weighs over 3 pounds, and that's before you put food in it!
The glass bowl has a diamond-shaped design and is in excellent condition with no chips, scratches or stains. The silver plated, gilt-edged rim shows normal wear for a vintage piece, but with two small dents on the top edge (the deepest one is shown) and other light blemishes; quite presentable for a lovely serving piece. This piece measures 8-1/2” in diameter and is 2-1/2” deep.
Silver Gilt is defined as: Most large objects made in goldsmithing that appear to be gold are actually silver-gilt. Apart from being much cheaper than gold, large silver-gilt objects are also much lighter if required to be lifted, and stronger. Compared to plain silver, for delicate objects, or those with much intricate detail like monstrances, gilding greatly reduced the need for cleaning and polishing, and so reduced the risk of damage to them.
